RE: Server Optimization Help for HEAVY MySQL load

It turns out the box can't fit anymore RAM...so I am back to deciding whether or not to upgrade my server package.

What do you think of moving mysql to its own server (same as the other one but w/ 1G of ram on it)?

That's a good idea as long as you use the same datacenter for a dedicated MySQL server. Using another datacenter won't be a good idea. Also confirm from your datacenter whether or not they charge for bandwidth transfered internally in their datacenter because bandwidth usage will increase on your current server (incoming bandwidth) and on your new mysql server (outgoing bandwidth).

RE: Server Optimization Help for HEAVY MySQL load

I read on their forums that they do charge for bandwidth between servers, unless I have a private switch which I don't know anything about...

at the moment, I lowered the max connections in mysql to 75 and setup a script to queue visitors who are "locked out"....that seems to be working pretty well...but I only put it into place yesterday, so my fingers are crossed...

I would still recommend upgrading your server as a whole... Either go for another server with the same host, or try to move to a more affordable hosting provider. Anyhow, you need more power.

Putting visitors in queue doesn't sounds like a very good idea, but it's alright since you havn't got the resources.

I think your provider gonna charge much for a private switch but you can inquire about it.

RE: Server Optimization Help for HEAVY MySQL load

Coppermine and phpbb were actually in the same database together, so that was causing some serious bottlenecking....so I split them up into seperate databases, and that really helped ease some of the pressure.

ROFL

So simple, yet I didn't really think of it until the idea of shelling out a bunch more money came into play.

I will upgrade the server soon...but for now things look good.
